Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS): Construction Employers to Watch
Key stats & takeaways
-
AOS is for workers already in Alberta on a valid work permit with a full-time, non-seasonal job offer in an eligible NOC (TEER 0–5).
- There are currently 928 jobs that maybe eligible for AOS as per QuestJobs research.
How to find jobs under AOS?
The AOS is part of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program. QuestJobs makes continous and thorough reserach on company and job eligibilities before a job is listed in the portal. Publicly available information are searched and identified. There are certain eligibility that QuestJobs can not and is not able to verify such as income and number of staff of a company. Having said all of these, QuestJobs have identified more than 100 companies that maybe eligible to sponsor (again certain verification must be done by the applicants themselves). Out of these 100, we have listed 10 companies below that yare actively hiring.
QuestJobs currently has almost 1000 identified jobs that maybe eligible for AOS nomination.
What is the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)?
AOS is an AAIP worker stream for temporary foreign workers already working in Alberta who have a qualifying full-time job offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible occupation. You must meet residency & work-permit, occupation, language, education, job-offer, and work-experience criteria at the time you apply.
AOS — Applicant eligibility (checklist)
-
Residency & work permit
You are in Alberta and hold a valid work permit that’s either LMIA-based or accepted LMIA-exempt (certain open permits like specific PGWP cases also qualify; see AAIP). -
Occupation
Your current job (and offer) must be in an eligible NOC (TEER 0–5) and not on Alberta’s ineligible list. Your work experience must match the occupation of the offer. -
Language
Minimum scores at application: CLB 5 for TEER 0–3; CLB 4 for TEER 4–5 (specific occupations can have higher thresholds). -
Education
At least Canadian high school or ECA-verified equivalent. PGWP holders need an approved Alberta credential (see AAIP for approved programs). -
Work experience
Usually 12 months full-time in Alberta in the last 18 months, or 24 months full-time in Canada and/or abroad in the last 30 months (in the same occupation). PGWP path: 6 months in Alberta. -
Job offer (what it must look like)
Full-time, non-seasonal (≥30 hrs/wk), 12-months+, meeting wage requirements (LMIA or Alberta’s lowest starting wage).
Pro tip: Alberta publishes an AOS checklist (documents like recent pay statements, permit pages, etc.). Use it to prep your file before HR issues the offer letter.
AOS — Employer requirements (what a sponsor-employer must meet)
In AOS, employers don’t “sponsor” in the federal sense, they support your nomination with a compliant job offer and company documents.
-
Legitimate Alberta business: incorporated/registered in Alberta, physically operating and providing goods/services in Alberta.
-
Meets AAIP job-offer & employer requirements: full-time, non-seasonal role; 12-months+; wages meeting LMIA or provincial wage guidance; demonstrates a genuine need for the role. (Alberta outlines additional business-health/operations expectations on the employer side.)
-
Employers generally must meet a minimum gross annual revenue of $400,000 (most recent fiscal year) and have at least 3 full-time employees in Alberta. If an employer is below that revenue/employee threshold, they can still participate, but they’re capped on how many nominees they may support (e.g., 1 nominee after 2 years of operation, 2 after 3 years, then +1 per additional year). Independent contractors don’t count as employees; two part-timers may count as one FTE.
- Exceptions: Indigenous, municipal, provincial, and federal (GoC/GoA) employers don’t need to meet the revenue/employee minimums. Caps on the number of nominees per employer have applied to applications received on or after March 18, 2024.
Construction employers to watch
These firms operate in Alberta’s build trades and may be suitable for AOS job offers if both sides meet AAIP rules. Inclusion here is not an endorsement or guarantee of nomination or LMIA. Always confirm current hiring, NOC alignment, and employer eligibility.

-
Be document-ready: language test (within 2 years), ECA, experience letters, permits, pay stubs (AOS checklist).
-
Apply directly on the employer sites above; in your cover letter, state you’re AOS-ready (NOC/TEER, CLB, ECA, months of AB experience).
-
Before you file AAIP: ensure the offer meets full-time/12-month/wage rules and that the employer meets AAIP’s job-offer & employer requirements.
QuestJobs POV
-
AOS rewards real Alberta experience. If you already have months of AB work in a construction NOC—and can hit CLB 4/5—you’re in a strong position once an employer is ready to back a full-time, 12-month+ offer.
-
NOC alignment is everything. Your duties, job title, and experience letters should line up cleanly.
-
Employer readiness speeds outcomes. Companies that understand AAIP job-offer rules and keep payroll/registration docs handy make AOS faster for everyone.
